Bespoke: A world without limitations

From a sofa shaped like a banana, to a luxuriously grand designer bed, if you’re contemplating a bespoke option here are the top four things you should consider…

1. What’s the point?
Of course you want something created with that wow factor, but make sure you don’t get carried away with the look – the piece you are having created is supposed to serve a purpose.  If it’s a bespoke sofa for a family home, ensure that its practical – is there room for everyone sit down, will the designs create extra space in your living room, would it be better to have removable covers in case of spillages?  Make a list of the practicalities to ensure they can be incorporated into the design.

2. Fitting In
Where will you put it? Will it be a focal point, a statement piece; or will it need to complement other items within the setting? Are you looking for flexibility, to allow you the option to place it in various areas when necessary?

If you’re looking for a customised back shape for your luxury sofa, perhaps to fit into an alcove or a bare corner; but consider you may change the layout of the room in the future, it may be beneficial to go for a modular piece to allow flexibility.  Or even to choose a more simplistic style to make it easier to adjust it to your setting.

3. How does it feel?
This really comes down to personal preference, there are limitless fabric options available you want upholstered onto your new bespoke furniture, so there is no need to hold back with something standard. You could opt for the luxurious comfort of a velvet finish, the more conventional strong leather hide, whatever your choice, be sure to consider textures, and how you want to feel on your new chair.

4. Set yourself apart
Remember that this will be your sofa or chair; a bespoke piece is built like to add a flourish or personal touch. Think about the details that represent your individual style and needs, from piping, studding, and wood finish, down to the perfect stitching, to make your piece of furniture totally unique. You could choose an assortment of fabrics which can make for some interesting textures and add an interesting dynamic. Let your imagination run wild, choose what you want, and then leave it to us to do the hard work. The only time we will rein you back in is when you start suggesting that the sofa should levitate and float you over to the kitchen…apart from that our workshop is your oyster.
